Antonio Conte: I feel that inter deserved to reach the final of the Italian Cup
Inter head coach Antonio Conte commented on the departure from Napoli in the semi-final of the Italian Cup after two meetings (0:1, 1:1).
“At the end of two games, inter deserved to reach the final. I can’t blame my players for anything. This is aggressive football. I want to see us dominate. There were a lot of chances, we could have played more coolly, but Ospina made some good saves and decided the outcome of the match. The goal we conceded was disappointing, we made a stupid mistake. During the Napoli goal, there was a rebound and we fell apart. We weren’t focused enough in that moment and we paid the price. This will be a lesson to us, because such details are crucial.
I want to see a similar inter game in the next matches. We had about 60% of possession, a lot more shots on goal. Napoli are in the final, we take our hats off to them, but we need to evaluate not only the result, but also the game. I am very happy with the team and I feel that we deserve to reach the final. The players are upset that they did not reach the final,” Conte was quoted as saying by Football Italia.
Conte hopes inter can get Vertonghen this summer
The management of inter Milan will try to negotiate a contract with Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen this summer. The 33-year-old Belgian’s move is being pushed by black and blue head coach Antonio Conte, according to Calciomercato.
Vertonghen will become a free agent at the end of the 2019/2020 season. Conte hopes that the club can get a defender who is also interested in Roma. At the same time, it is possible that Jan will continue to play for Tottenham if he extends the agreement.
In the current campaign, Vertonghen took part in 19 English Premier League matches, 4 FA Cup meetings and 3 Champions League games. The defender has 2 goals and 1 assist.
Before joining Tottenham, Jan played at Ajax Amsterdam and Waalwijk.
